Once upon a time, in a little corner of the musical universe, three creatives hopped down a rabbit hole of sound — and Microscopic Bunnies was born.
What started as a casual collaboration between myself, Digital Droo (my longtime partner-in-musical-crime), and Liz Aday has blossomed into something more than I could have imagined. I didn’t even know we were missing this piece — but Liz’s incredible skill for layering sounds, her attention to detail, and her knack for creating harmonic accents have added a whole new dimension to our music. And getting to witness each step of the process is teaching me so much, from guitar parts to melodic phrasing. It feels like pure magic — a whirlwind of creativity, expansion, and discovery. And we're officially kicking things off with a song that features me on the banjo for the first time.
🎶 The Birth of ‘Me Time’ 🎶
Our debut track as Microscopic Bunnies is called Me Time, and it holds a special place in my heart. Why? Because it’s the first release-ready song where I played an instrument myself. Let me tell you — hearing my own banjo plucking in the final mix? A surreal, joyful moment.
The song itself is a playful ode to self-care. Think of it as a pop-country anthem with a shaboozey vibe (a fusion of hip hop and country, with our version leaning more pop). It’s playful and unexpected — like putting on your cowboy boots, but dancing to a beat that feels modern and fresh. That contrast gives it a unique, feel-good sound that’s unmistakably Microscopic Bunnies. There are layers of rich harmonies, some cheeky whistling, and a message we all need to hear: Take time for yourself. You deserve it.
But Me Time is more than just a song. It’s a milestone. It’s the moment I stopped saying, “I want to be an instrumentalist someday,” and started being one. And that’s all thanks to Liz.
⭐ Enter: Liz Aday ⭐
Now, let me tell you about Liz. If you don’t already know her, you’re in for a treat. Liz is a brilliant artist with a story that inspires me endlessly. Diagnosed with Vocal Cord Palsy in 2017, she faced a challenge that would’ve stopped many in their tracks. But not Liz. She found new ways to create, new ways to express her artistry, and she’s still going strong.
Her resilience reminds me of my father, a singer-songwriter whose vocal cords were paralyzed toward the end of his life. Like him, Liz proves that creativity finds a way — even when the voice you once relied on changes.
Liz sums up our collaboration beautifully on her website. If you want to learn more about her journey and hear her perspective on the Microscopic Bunnies, I encourage you to check out her story here.
🎸 The Fellowship of the Bunnies 🎸
Microscopic Bunnies are here to make music, share stories, push boundaries, and encourage each other to grow. Liz is even helping me master the guitar with weekly lessons, and every day we’re sending each other ideas, motivation, and new musical rabbit holes to explore.
One of those rabbit holes has led to our upcoming track called Waterdog Lake, a song I wrote that we’re expressing in a powerful field holler style. This one is intensely fun — raw, soulful, and unlike anything I’ve ever done before. I can’t wait to share it with you.
And then there’s Droo — the wizard behind the curtain. He’s been my creative partner for years, helping me bring songs to life with his technical brilliance and sonic intuition. Together, the three of us form a team that’s constantly evolving, constantly experimenting, and constantly surprising ourselves.
🌱 Planting Seeds of Sound 🌱
Our first song, Me Time, is just the beginning. We have a growing spreadsheet of works in progress, and the sound of Microscopic Bunnies is taking shape. We’re planting seeds of sound and watching them grow — into melodies, harmonies, and stories that we can’t wait to share.
So, what’s next? More music. More rabbit holes. More moments of pure creative joy. We’re digging in deep, and we’re just getting started.
Because here’s the thing about bunnies — they multiply. 😉
Stay tuned. The Bunnies are on the loose, and the music is only getting better from here.
